چکیده

Most contemporary demand pacemakers contain a magnetic reed switch easily actuated by the application of an external magnet over the pulse generator. This report describes the unusual response of two implanted pulse generators to the testing magnet. The magnetic reed switch of one pulse generator was found to 'stick' in the open position making it impossible to revert the pulse generator to its fixed-rate mode with the magnet. The other pulse generator exhibited erratic pacing while the magnet was being held completely still over it, probably because the additionalforces imposed by the magnet upon the already swollen batteries unmasked imminent pacemaker failure. These observations constitute new additions to the growing list of demand pacemaker problems.

Potential interference of small neodymium magnets with cardiac pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.

BACKGROUND Magnetic fields may interfere with the function of cardiac pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). Neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets, which are small in size but produce strong magnetic fields, have become widely available in recent years. Therefore, NdFeB magnets may be associated with an emerging risk of device interference. OBJECTIVE We conducted a clin...

Temporary inhibition of permanently implanted demand pacemakers.

Temporary inhibition of permanently implanted demand pacemakers has been previously described. Demand pacemakers may be inhibited by waving a magnet over the region of the pacemaker generator or by chest wall stimulation. The former may not inhibit most of the bipolar pacemakers, whereas the latter may be time consuming and may casue patient discomfort. Another method is described which utilize...

CASE REPORTS Inhibition of Bipolar Demand Pacemaker by Diaphragmatic Myopotentials

INHIBITION OF DEMAND PACEMAKERS by musculoskeletal potentials has been reported to occur only with unipolar pacing systems.1 14 Mymin et al.,2 however, described one case of apparent suppression of a bipolar unit by myopotentials but gave no details about the mechanism of interference. Peter et al.", recently described transient inhibition of a unipolar demand pacemaker during deep respiration ...

Optimization of surface mounted axial flux switching generator with response surface method

In this paper, a novel structure of a axial flux switching machines for use in wind speed turbines at low speeds has been proposed, which in addition to the previous advantages, has a simple and economical design for the production of this type of machines. In this proposed machine, the magnets are placed on the surface of stator, and the three-phase winding is located in the space between the ...
